Protean Investments has launched its first UK structured product targeted primarily at institutional investors.
RPI Plus Note is a six-year gilt-collateralised note paying the cumulative change in RPI over six years plus a fixed 18% bonus if the FTSE100 never closes below 50% of its initial level.
Protean, named after Homer's old man of the sea, is the newly regulated investment house set up by structured product veterans Mike Egerton and Clive Moore, as well as asset manager James Mossman.
Moore is director of structured product consultancy Investment Design & Distribution (IDAD) while-á Egerton was a director at Merrill Lynch for seven years before heading the UK and Ireland teams at Deutsche, DrKW and ABN Amro. Mossman helped establish stockbroker Quilter's Leeds office and was a founder of Cardale Asset Management.
