Alliance Trust announces its first interim dividend

The board said it expects to recommend further quarterly interim dividends of the same amount payable on 1 November and 31 January 2011, and a fourth interim dividend of at least that amount, payable on 3 May 2011. The trust's shares closed on Wednesday at 317.7p, which values the company at £2.1bn.

A statement from the company said: "The board is confident that the dividend will be covered by current year earnings and doesn't expect to draw down on reserves in order to pay its 44th consecutive annual dividend increase."
