The funds I'm buying for my 2014 ISA

22 March 2014

With this year's ISA deadline approaching, Joshua Ausden reveals what he is putting in his tax-free wrapper and asks the experts to tell him what they think of his choices.

With the ISA deadline less than two months away, the turbulence in risk assets – caused by plummeting emerging market currencies and general profit-taking – has provided investors with a potential buying opportunity at a very convenient time. I have around £6,000 of my ISA allowance left before the 6 April deadline, and I’m planning on putting around £4,000 of it to use.

So far we haven’t seen a crash on the scale of 2008 or even 2011 yet, and so the buying opportunity needs to be put into perspective. Alastair Mundy, manager of the Temple Bar IT, thinks some investors have got ahead of themselves.

“One of the problems with information being so visible these days is that everyone gets excited even if there is a little fall in markets,” he said.

“If you look at developed markets, the falls have been pretty small – particularly when you consider how strongly particular markets and stocks have performed recently.”
