FE Trustnet verdict
Overall, performing about the same as the peer group composite. Nevertheless, over a long track record, the manager has outperformed the peer group more often than not. Stockpicking has not really benefited results, which have tended to be relatively better in a rising market.
Manager profile
Alan began his investment career as an Investment Assistant at Merseyside County Council in 1980, rising to the position of Senior Investment Manager in 1987. In addition to managing traditional assets, Alan led the introduction of a wide range of alternative asset classes into The Merseyside Pension Fund. He was responsible for the Team’s first hedge fund investments in the early 1990s and for the introduction of structured products. Alan was also involved in the development of the private equity programme at Merseyside Pension Fund. Alan jointly founded Miton Capital Partners Limited (formerly Midas Capital Partners Limited) in 2002. Alan has been lead manager on the CF Miton Distribution Fund (formerly CF Midas Balanced Income Fund) since launch in 2002. Alan is also the lead manager of the Midas Income & Growth Trust plc.

Performance vs peer group composite: Alan Borrows
How a manager matches up against his peers gives you some idea of how talented he is. Very few managers perform equally well in rising and falling markets, so knowing which type of market a manager is capable of performing well within is also important.
