Trustnet Magazine: The passives edition is out today!

23 May 2016

The May issue of Trustnet Magazine asks whether active management is really worth paying for.

One of the biggest criticisms FE Trustnet receives in its comments section is that we don’t write enough about passives. As a result, we have dedicated the latest issue of Trustnet Magazine, out today, to the subject.

Committed passives proponent Robin Powell has written an in-depth criticism of the active management industry, claiming that "simple arithmetic" shows why it isn’t worth the money. He makes a number of arguments that may make even committed actives advocate sit up and re-consider why they have always preferred the more expensive products – read his excellent article here.

This edition also features articles from Adam Lewis about whether you should build an entire income portfolio out of passives, and Pádraig Floyd, on the weird and wonderful parts of the market that ETFs can give you exposure to. For investors who are looking for even more diversification, Phil Scott reviews the investment trust sectors given the “Specialist” prefix by the AIC.

In our regular columns, John Blowers advises on how small changes to your saving habits can have a big impact on your pension pot, Schroders’ Kevin Murphy tips three banking stocks to rebound and Thesis Asset Management’s Gaurav Gupta reveals which fund he is using to navigate the bond market volatility.

Trustnet Magazine is and always will be free. You do not even have to enter any details – simply click here to begin reading. Alternatively, click here to download a PDF version.
