L&G, GLG and Aegon UK have announced they have hired Mark Zinkula, Jeffrey Atherton and Adrian Grace respectively.

Zinkula becomes L&G Investment Management’s new chief executive, after serving the same role at L&G Investment Management America. Before joining L&G, he was global head of fixed income at Aegon Asset Management. He replaces interim chief executive Kevin Gregory.

Jeffrey Atherton joins GLG as senior portfolio manager of the GLG Japan Core Alpha team. He was formerly partner and co-manager of Japanese equity strategies at Stratton Street Capital, and has more than 20 years' experience in the field.

Atherton will work with head of Japanese equities Stephen Harker, senior portfolio manager Neil Edwards and Japan team consultant Robert Brooke in managing various portfolios, including the UK-based £1.1bn GLG Japan Core Alpha fund.

Financial Express data shows GLG Japan Core Alpha has outperformed its IMA Japan sector by nearly 30 per cent in the last three years.

It is the second best-performing fund in the entire sector over three- and five-year periods, bettered only by Neptune Japan Opportunities.
