CF Lindsell Train UK Equity, Liontrust Special Situations and Evenlode Income are among the select group of funds that have managed to outperform the FTSE All Share in each of the past five years as well as over the turbulent start to 2016, research by FE Trustnet shows.

Less than 20 per cent of funds deliver above average returns for three years in a row so we decided to apply a harder test and look for those from the IA UK All Companies and IA UK Equity Income that have beaten the FTSE All Share in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 to date.

As investors will be aware, that covers a wide range of market conditions – the turmoil created by the eurozone sovereign debt crisis, the two bull years that followed, the flatter conditions of 2014 and 2015 then the challenging environment that has marked this year.

In the following gallery, we take a closer look at the only funds from the two sectors to have beaten the market during all this, ending with the one that has made the highest total return over the five-and-a-half years examined.
