July's movers and shakers

FE Trustnet takes a look at where managers have moved from and to this month.

Gareth Isaac, Schroders

Gareth Isaac has been appointed as a senior portfolio manager within the London-based fixed income multi-sector team. He joins in October and will work on high-conviction mandates.

Isaac joins from GLG Partners, where he was fund manager of the GLG Core Plus Sterling Bond, GLG Total Return Bond and GLG Gilt funds.

Prior to GLG Partners, he worked as a senior fixed income fund manager at SG Asset Management on the SG Core and SG Total Return Bond funds.

Schroders’ chief investment officer of fixed income, Philippe Lespinard, described the appointment by saying: "Gareth brings a skill-set that complements our existing multi-sector framework."

"He has more than 12 years' experience as a portfolio manager in global fixed income markets and has developed an enviable and consistent track record through a wide variety of market environments."


Gordon Brown, Legg Mason subsidiary Western Asset

ALT_TAG Gordon Brown joins from Baillie Gifford as a portfolio manager on the global markets team. Brown will be based in Western’s London office and will manage global mandates, as well as provide specialist input on Eastern European debt markets.

"Gordon’s proven talent and deep expertise in sovereign markets will be of great value to our clients and to Western Asset," said Steve Walsh, Western’s chief investment officer.

Brown has 18 years of fixed income investment experience and most recently was a senior investment manager specialising in emerging market rates and currencies at Baillie Gifford. Before Baillie Gifford, he was head of global fixed income for State Street Global Advisors in London.


Ben Pakenham, Aberdeen Asset Management

Aberdeen Asset Management has appointed Ben Pakenham as a portfolio manager and credit analyst to its high yield bond team. Reporting to European high yield boss Paul Read, Pakenham will focus on credit research work and also help manage the group’s range of high yield portfolios.

Ben joins from Henderson Global Investors, where for the past year he managed the Henderson Extra Monthly Income Bond fund and co-managed the Henderson High Yield Monthly Income fund.


Toby Nangle, Threadneedle Investments

Toby Nangle has been hired as head of multi-asset, reporting to Threadneedle's chief investment officer Mark Burgess. He will join in January 2012 and will be based in London.

Nangle’s responsibilities will focus on growing the multi-asset franchise at Threadneedle.

Prior to joining Threadneedle Investments, Nangle was a director of both the multi-asset and fixed income teams at Baring Asset Management. He joined Barings' fixed income team in 1997.

Burgess commented: "Multi-asset funds are increasing in popularity as a core holding among institutional and retail investors and Nangle brings with him a proven track record in this area."
