As part of FE Trustnet’s new site design and enhancements, we have made some changes to the way we organise our data, in particular to the core UK Unit Trust and OEICs universe and IA Unit Trust and OEICs universe.
There is a massive overlap between the two universes and we found that having both universes available created some inconsistencies and causes of confusion. Going forward the new fund factsheet pages will provide the IA Unit Trusts and OEICs universe as the default view; it will also be used as the basis for sector rankings.
What does that mean? For most users of the site, there will be no changes to the funds available or the data displayed.
For users who had previously looked at funds via the UK Unit Trusts and OEICs universe (rather than the IA universe) they will see a few funds move to unclassified (where they are not IA members) and will see some slight changes to ranking within sector scores to reflect the number of sector members with the IA universe.
The IA universe also includes a small number of Offshore funds that are available for sale to UK investors – these can be identified by looking at the ‘fund type’ on all the FE Trustnet factsheets.
By introducing consistency based around the IA universe we will be eliminating one of the biggest sources of user support calls and enabling all our users to get a consistent view of ranking and sectors however they access the site.
