The top-performing UK equity income funds that haven’t been wrong-footed by 2016

20 October 2016

With 2016 proving to be a difficult year for active managers, FE Trustnet finds out if any previously top-performing funds are beating the FTSE All Share over the year to date.

Only 10 funds out of the 82 that reside in the IA UK Equity Income sector are beating the FTSE All Share over the year to date, but a number of these have been at the bottom of their peer group over recent years.

FE Analytics shows that UBS UK Equity Income is the sector’s best performer over 2016 so far, making a 25.55 per cent total return. As a point of comparison, the FTSE All Share has made 13.94 per cent while the average IA UK Equity Income fund is up just 7.28 per cent.

But like many of the funds currently at the top of the peer group, its longer term track record is more lacklustre with it sitting in the bottom decile and lagging the index over the three and five years to the end of 2015.

Our data shows that only four members of the IA UK Equity Income sector have outpaced the FTSE All Share in 2016 while also boasting good returns against the index over the previous five years. We take a look at these funds in this gallery-style article.
